At Anstey Chess Club, we firmly believe that the future of the club depends on the next generation of players. While we’re proud of our vibrant community of “middle-aged” and “senior” members, we know that true longevity comes from inspiring and developing young talent.
Over the last few years, we’ve built a thriving junior chess community, now boasting more than 20 active junior competitors of all ages. From complete beginners learning their first moves to experienced youngsters competing in local and county events, our juniors are right at the heart of the club’s success and energy.
This achievement didn’t happen overnight — it’s the result of years of steady work, patience, and passion from our members and coaches. We’ve invested time into outreach, created welcoming spaces for young players to learn, and built strong partnerships with local organisations and parents who share our vision. Week after week, our volunteers and coaches have helped shape a programme that’s about far more than chess — it’s about confidence, friendship, and belonging. Thanks to that collective effort, junior chess in Anstey is now thriving like never before, and we’re proud to see the next generation growing right before our eyes.
Anstey Junior Chess Club — Thursdays at Anstey Methodist Church
We’re proud to host the Anstey Junior Chess Club, offering weekly sessions designed especially for young players who have already made progress in their chess ability.
🕕 When: Every Thursday, 6pm – 7pm
📍 Where: Anstey Methodist Church
💷 Cost: £5 per session
These sessions are led by our experienced junior coaches Alan Agnew and Ben Vaughan, who bring years of teaching experience and a real passion for junior development. Whether your child is a complete beginner or an improving player, they’ll find a supportive, fun, and engaging environment to learn, play, and grow.
The Anstey Junior Chess Club is not just about opening moves and tactics (although there will be some of that too!) — it’s about having fun, making friends, and building confidence through the great game of chess.
More Junior Chess Opportunities
